Beijing subway security has been amped up as the city enters its busiest time of year.

120 people have been detained for attempting to bring prohibited items on the subway and security check areas are now manned by at least 5 security guards.

Station rubbish bins will now also be checked frequently for dangerous or explosive items.

30 passengers were also reported to the authorities for refusing to comply with security screenings.

Stations will now also be manned by sniffer dogs, and police will be armed with batons and specialized equipment for detaining armed criminals.
