12 suspects were arrested recently in Shenzhen’s Longgang District, for fraudulently obtaining over 10 million RMB from various men, by following the rules set out in a handy guide, named ‘How to Cheat People by Pretending to be a Wealthy Woman Seeking Marriage’.

The guide, whilst proving useful to the women in their scheming, ultimately led to their downfall, as the incriminatingly titled guidebooks were found in their residence and will no doubt be used as evidence in court.

The scheme was pretty standard as relationship fraud scams go. A man named Liu replied to a marriage classified ad from a wealthy Hong Kong woman surnamed Wang. They began messaging each other and ‘confirmed’ their relationship after a few days.

Soon after, Liu received a message from ‘Wang’ asking him to transfer her 6,700 RMB because she had damaged someone’s camera lens in an airport and needed to pay it back. Liu, for some reason, immediately complied.

He then received a second request, this time for 20,000 RMB, as the camera lens couldn’t be repaired and she needed to buy a new one.

When he received a third request for money to pay medical expenses, because Wang had ‘fainted’ at the airport, he finally cottoned on and contacted the police.

The investigation is still ongoing, but lonely bachelors of China should probably show a little caution when contacted by mysterious women on the internet.

Are men so desperate that they would fall for crap like this? Do what I do: If they ask for money, ask them what they want to do for that money. When they ask what do you want. . .tell them the most perverted, BDSM sex act you can think of. Normally the answer will be no. . .to which you reply "If you think I'm your bank, then you're my play toy." Usually ends the conversation immediately.
