Poetic Justice? Internet Fraudster is Tricked by Online Girlfriend

A man who scammed millions of RMB out of people got a taste of his own medicine when he discovered that his online ‘girlfriend’ was in fact a fellow scammer.

31 year old Zhang scammed over 2 million RMB from people using an off shore gold trading scheme. In reality, as so often is the case, Zhang didn’t have any connections at all to off shore gold trading and ran off with the money. He then proceeded to spend it on expensive gifts for his beautiful online girlfriend Xu Mengna. He eventually ran up an extreme amount of debt, and unable to pay it back, went on the prowl for new investors in a vicious cycle that led to his inevitable arrest.

However, the plot thickens. When questioned on where the money went, Zhang confessed that it had mostly gone on his girlfriend. His descriptions immediately rang alarm bells for the police who suspected she was another internet scammer. Further investigation concluded that Zhang’s ‘baifumei’ (a phrase to describe an ‘ideal’ girl; pale, rich and beautiful) girlfriend was actually a short dumpy mother who was in fact already married.

Although they had never met, they called each other almost every day, referred to each other as husband and wife and had even spoken of marriage.  Zhang also sent her a staggering 800,000 RMB’s worth of gifts. On discovering his girlfriends treachery Zhang broke down, and was understandably upset.

Perhaps it will inspire him to mend his ways?

Poetic indeed! Scammed by a scammer. Goes to show crime doesn't pay. Eventually you'll get caught and shamed. In this case, both the scammed scammer and the scammer's scammer (tongue twister or what?) both ended up in the clinger. What else is there to say? Good job, PSB!
