China’s Cheating Saga: Shanxi School Monitors Exams with Outdoor Telescopes, HD Cameras, Ladders
Nov 18, 2014 By eChinacities.com

An exam session in a Baoji college in Shanxi province was pretty spectacular on November 13, as 1200 students sat an exam at one time, with three sessions in one day. The exam hall required 80 invigilators, telescopes, ladders, high-definition cameras and loudspeakers.

The college dean said there were two reasons for the exam to be such a spectacle: firstly, to help students understand the severity of the situation, and take the exam seriously, and secondly, to prevent cheating, which is a big problem throughout China.

They have been organizing exams like this for ten years, with a session in spring and one in autumn.

It's a publicity stunt. A farce. Since when does anyone actually think cheating is bad? Only results matter. The means by how they are attained are irrelevant.

Of course it is bad! Cheating is combining lying and stealing someone else's answers. If you were going in for surgery and you had the choice between 2 doctors 1 that had cheated on his medical exam and one who had not which would you choose? This "saving face" thing that happens in China is really LYING. When Chinese think lying and cheating are okay it leaves the rest of the world with the impression that Chinese are dishonest and untrustworthy. Is that what you really want people to think about China?
