On November 19, more than 50 monks set out from Chunxi Road, Chengdu to walk 180 kilometers to Emeishan. The monks walked in a simple line, carrying dry food in backpacks and chanted meditations. They hope to complete the walk within eight days covering more than 30,000 steps a day.

The monks carry their own tent and will camp at night. Believers who accompany them must provide their own food, and not use their cell phones. Journeying on foot is an ancient spiritual practice for monks.
