Victim or Scammer? Woman Receives Million Yuan Transfer Meant for Someone Else

Mr. Zhang received quite a shock when he accidentally sent almost a million Yuan from his company’s account to the account of a random person.

Zhang runs a leather company in Longwan, Wenzhou. On October 26, he discussed a return order with a customer by phone. The order was worth 959,343.70 Yuan.

A few seconds after hanging up, Zhang received a text message with a stranger’s bank account number and name in it. He thought that the name and the number belonged to customer asking for remittance. Zhang forwarded the information to his financial team, who sent the 959,343.70 Yuan to the account.

The next day, the customer contacted Zhang and said he had not received the money. Zhang realized that he had sent the money to the wrong account. He immediately contacted the Longwan police.

The Longwan police immediately launched an emergency mechanism to freeze the bank accounts involved. In the account in question, police found the nearly 960,000 Yuan almost all intact.

The owner of the bank account was a woman named Wu Ji, from Henan. Her phone number was from Jinan, Shandong and she had been living there for nearly a month. Shandong police arrested Wu on November 11 on the suspicion that she had been involved in a con. On November 13, police recovered the money that had been sent to her account by Zhang.

After her arrest, Wu explained that she had seen the balance on her bank card and had been shocked by the amount of money. “I was afraid that if I took out the money, I would bear responsibility,” she said. Wu said that she hesitated for nearly 12 hours, deciding whether or not to withdraw the money. She said that she usually only has hundreds or thousands in her account, definitely not millions.

Wu is currently under criminal detention in Longwan, and police are looking for her alleged accomplices who sent out the fraudulent SMS.

Arrest you first then make up a case against you. Scam or not , you recovered the money. She made no attempt to flee with the money. What kind of business man is so careless? Is it me, or does this story sound bogus?
