South China’s boomtown has plenty of hip parties, beaches, parks, and other outdoor spaces to enjoy the weather in, though if it’s food you’re after, there’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned barbecue. As with almost every city in China, Shenzhen is packed full of barbecue restaurants and stands, and here we’ve compiled a list of the best barbecue areas in the city for you to check out. Whether it’s a buzzing atmosphere or a serene, natural setting that you after, Shenzhen has it all. So don’t miss out on the potential chomping and munching that can be had as you relax in the heavenly joys of food on a stick!
1) Dameisha View In Map
Dameisha is a beach area facing the South China Sea and features its fair share of amusements such as jet skis, motorboats and beach volleyball, all within a beautiful surrounding of rolling karst peaks. Of course, a day at the beach wouldn’t be complete without some barbecue action, and Dameisha certainly doesn’t disappoint. The barbecue area is huge, though due to its popularity, it’s also pretty pricey—one pot (for up to eight people) will set you back around 160 RMB. The pots come with a bag of charcoal, an iron grate and everything else you’ll need to get your barbecue started, and the area features a huge selection of different meats, vegetables, and seafood. Dameisha’s barbecue area is open 24 hours a day, so if you’re planning on spending a night on the beach, then you needn’t worry about not getting enough nourishment in the middle of the night!

2) Donghu Park View In Map
For those of you wanting to enjoy some barbecue in a more peaceful area, then head on over to Donghu Park. The park itself is an idyllic area that features a large lake in the middle surrounded by all types of trees and plants, making it an ideal escape from the frantic pace of the city. Regarding the barbecue, you can rent a large pot for 100 RMB (ten people), or a small pot for 80 RMB (six people), both of which come with a bag of charcoal and an iron grate. Once you’ve done that, feel free to take your pick among the countless choices of lamb, beef, fish, chicken, and vegetable skewers as you prepare to chow down in what is a truly relaxing setting.

3) Xichong View In Map
Xichong rivals Dameisha as one of Shenzhen’s top beaches, and frequently attracts surfers, backpackers, and hikers who all come to enjoy its stunning scenery. It’s a bit tricky to get to, so Xichong isn’t as busy as Dameisha, and of course it still has its very own top of the range barbecue function that won’t leave you disappointed. You can rent a kit with everything you’ll need to get a fire going for 80 RMB, though if you run out of charcoal, an extra bag will cost you 25 RMB. As it’s a beach area, it’s best to take advantage of all the seafood that is readily pulled in from the South China Sea, as it’s about as fresh as you can get! The barbecue doesn’t stay open all night, but if you’ve come prepared it’s definitely worth staying overnight on the beach to catch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Getting there: take the tourist bus (旅游专线) from the Shenzhen Futian Bus Station (福田汽车站) to Dapeng (大鹏). Or, you can take bus E11 from the Yinhu Bus Station (银湖汽车站) to Nanao (南澳). Once you’ve reached either Dapeng or Nanao, take bus M232 to Xichong (西冲)
4) Xiangsilin Park View In Map
The barbecue area at Xiangsilin Park is nestled halfway up the hill in the middle of the park, and rivals Donghu Park in terms of its serene and peaceful atmosphere. Entrance fees for the park cost 5 RMB, and a pot (which caters to around ten people) will cost you 80 RMB. Extra charcoal costs 8 RMB per kilo, and the park provides water for you to wash your vegetables with prior to grilling them on the pot. Xiangsilin doesn’t have much to offer in the way of skewers so it’s best to head down to your local supermarket to pick up some supplies before you get there.
