Heaven On a Stick: The Best Barbecue Areas in Shenzhen

As it’s one of the hottest places in China with its sub-tropical climate, Shenzhen is a great place to do just about anything outdoors. South China’s boomtown has plenty of hip parties, beaches, parks, and other outdoor spaces to enjoy the weather in, though if it’s food you’re after, there’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned barbecue. As with almost every city in China, Shenzhen is packed full of barbecue restaurants and stands, and here we’ve compiled a list of the best barbecue areas in the city for you to check out. Whether it’s a buzzing atmosphere or a serene, natural setting that you after, Shenzhen has it all. So don’t miss out on the potential chomping and munching that can be had as you relax in the heavenly joys of food on a stick!

1) Dameisha View In Map
Dameisha is a beach area facing the South China Sea and features its fair share of amusements such as jet skis, motorboats and beach volleyball, all within a beautiful surrounding of rolling karst peaks. Of course, a day at the beach wouldn’t be complete without some barbecue action, and Dameisha certainly doesn’t disappoint. The barbecue area is huge, though due to its popularity, it’s also pretty pricey—one pot (for up to eight people) will set you back around 160 RMB. The pots come with a bag of charcoal, an iron grate and everything else you’ll need to get your barbecue started, and the area features a huge selection of different meats, vegetables, and seafood. Dameisha’s barbecue area is open 24 hours a day, so if you’re planning on spending a night on the beach, then you needn’t worry about not getting enough nourishment in the middle of the night!

The park itself is an idyllic area that features a large lake in the middle surrounded by all types of trees and plants, making it an ideal escape from the frantic pace of the city. Regarding the barbecue, you can rent a large pot for 100 RMB (ten people), or a small pot for 80 RMB (six people), both of which come with a bag of charcoal and an iron grate. Once you’ve done that, feel free to take your pick among the countless choices of lamb, beef, fish, chicken, and vegetable skewers as you prepare to chow down in what is a truly relaxing setting.

You can rent a kit with everything you’ll need to get a fire going for 80 RMB, though if you run out of charcoal, an extra bag will cost you 25 RMB. As it’s a beach area, it’s best to take advantage of all the seafood that is readily pulled in from the South China Sea, as it’s about as fresh as you can get! The barbecue doesn’t stay open all night, but if you’ve come prepared it’s definitely worth staying overnight on the beach to catch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
