Feeling a touch of malaise? When you live in Shanghai it’s all too easy to live on fast food and takeaways as well as coffee, alcohol and cigarettes all of which can lead to the buildup of toxins in the body and excess body weight. Not being one to let Western trends to pass them by, several companies in Shanghai have caught onto the juice cleanse craze. A juice cleanse is a type of fast in which you restrict your diet to raw fruit and vegetable juices. Juice cleanse advocates argue that this facilitates the flushing out of toxins in the body by giving your digestive system a break from breaking down large meals.

3) VCleanseView In Map
Said to be the first juice cleanse company in Shanghai, VCleanse distinguish themselves by using the ‘cold-press’ method of making juice which uses high pressure to extract juice so that the fruit’s temperature remains cold. This ensures that there is a minimum of heat and mixing of air with juices preserving its natural flavors, as well as the life-giving enzymes and nutrients. This is said to be a much more efficient process than conventional centrifugal juicers which spins fruit at high speeds, exposing the juice to greater heat and oxygen. VCleanse claim that their method extracts up to 100% more juice and is modeled on the same technology used by leading alternative cancer treatment centers who prescribe nutritious juice to patients.
VCleanse’s juice cleanse is a three day regime, costs 450 RMB and is delivered directly to your door every day.

4) Farmhouse Juice
Farmhouse Juice used to operate out of a pop-up window store beside the Avocado Lady shop on Wulumuqi Lu until their acrimonious break up in 2013 but it lives on through its website which stocks the same old juice that they were known and loved for.
In order to address some concerns about the safety of juice cleanses, Farmhouse Juice stresses the nutritional benefits of its drinks, emphasizing how its ‘live’ juice cleanse both removes toxins and possesses strong therapeutic effects by supplying the body with all the essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes that it needs in a way that is for it to process and absorb.
Farmhouse have a variety of juice cleanses on offer that range from a 1 day (204 RMB) that aims to add a ‘spark’ to your system to a somewhat daunting 15 day program (3,060 RMB) that purports to ‘fight off degenerative diseases’.
Their individual bottles of juice range from 34-45 RMB each and have some rather memorable names. They include the ‘Green Elixir’, a mixture of kale, spinach, romaine, parsley, celery, cucumber, apple, ginger and lemon and the ‘Internal Fix’, a blend of pineapple, apple and mint.
