School in Zhongshan Accused of Penalizing Girls for Wearing Colored Underwear

There was much uproar online recently when a post claiming that female students in “Zhongshan Secondary Specialized School” were penalized for wearing colored underwear went viral.

The story broke on October 15 on the “moments” section of WeChat. A post appeared that stated the following: “Students who wear a colorful bra must write a 1500 word self-criticism in duplicate. One must be signed by the head teacher and stamped with the school seal, the other must be returned with the signature of a parent. One point will be deducted for black underwear, two points for colored underwear and three points for thin or patterned underwear. Lace underwear will be deducted four points and diamante underwear five points.”

After seeing the post, a netizen reposted it on a Baidu forum and Sina Weibo, where it quickly attracted wide scale attention.

After news of the post got back to the school, an internal investigation found the person who originally posted it, a person called Su. Su admitted to posting the story after one of the teachers called out a female student for wearing rather revealing clothing. However, Su admitted to completely fabricating the part about the school penalizing students for their choice of underwear.

The Zhongshan school has a strict history: uniforms are compulsory, hair dying is banned and students are not permitted to shorten or tighten their skirts. However, the school completely denies having any rules related to underwear. Maybe this fiasco gave them a new idea. Watch out girls!

I suppose the reason it has been written up here as news is because for China, it's believable!
