Tianjin Implementing New License Plate Laws to Curb Traffic and Pollution

Tianjin Implementing New License Plate Laws to Curb Traffic and Pollution
Feb 08, 2014 By eChinacities.com

From March 1, 2014 until January 10, 2015 Tianjin will put into place traffic management measures every work day from 07:00-19:00 (aside from legal holidays) that limit car use according to their license plate serial numbers. All cars will be divided into five separate groups depending on the last number of their license plate: 1&6, 2&7, 3&8, 4&9, 5&0. A regular rotation of limitation will be instituted towards each group.

In addition, cars from outside Tianjin will not be allowed within the outer ring road during peak hours on weekdays (07:00-09:00 and 16:00-19:00) regardless of their license plate grouping and freight trucks will not be allowed within the city everyday from 07:00-19:00.

These measures are all an attempt to curb traffic, as well as pollution levels in the city, which experienced 200 hazardous days in 2013.
