The city of Shanghai, on December 2, issued a level 6 air pollution warning. Level 6, which is indicated by the color orange on the pollution index, means that the air pollution exceeded a reading of 300 ppm. As of 18:00 on December 2 the pollution had reach 307 ppm.

Pollution levels are expected to remain high for the next three days, with December 3 predicted to be the worst, before clearing up. Beijing must have a different scale then, if Shanghai is worried about a mere 300 ppm.
