Fonterra Co-operative Group of New Zealand announced on Aug 2 that some of its whey protein had been contaminated with Clostridium Botulinum, a toxic bacteria that can cause nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, paralysis or even death. Some of the contaminated concentrated protein milk powder from the May 2012 batch was exported to China. China's quality watchdog has suspended imports of New Zealand milk powder and ordered importers to pull products from their shelves.

Theo Spierings, CEO of Fonterra Co-operative Group apologized at a press conference on Aug 5, and promised that the products in question will be recalled within 48 hours. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key expressed disappointment in the milk contamination incident, and suggested that he might visit China personally to explain the milk scandal.

Not sure where the scandal is here. The milk company took the stuff off of the market before it was even sold. Not one person died or got sick. The milk company withdrew it themselves. A Scandal would be not withdrawing it and waiting for sick and dead babies to follow. Food is recalled everyday around the world.
