On May 15 this year, five separate domestic flights that were destined to land in Shenzhen received bomb-related threats via telephone on the same day. On the afternoon of November 5, Bao'an District People's Court announced the verdict of China’s “biggest bomb hoax case”, sentencing the defendant, Wang Hongliang, to five years in prison.

It was discovered that Wang called six different airports across the country claiming that a suicide bomber was aboard flights ZH9243 (from Xi’an to Shenzhen), ZH9866 (Nanjing to Shenzhen), ZH9889 (Beijing to Shenzhen), HO1111 (Shanghai to Shenzhen) and MU2325 (Lanzhou to Shenzhen via Xi’an). His hoax calls resulted in losses of 800,000 RMB. Authorities arrested Wang on May 16 in a hostel in Chanping Township, Dongguan.
