Four people were killed and 11 injured in a brutal stabbing incident that occurred in Chengdu on August 25.

At 21:16, a man surnamed Li suddenly withdrew a knife on the No.42 bus and began stabbing fellow passengers. The bus driver then halted the bus and told passengers to quickly disembark. The suspect then ran down Caojia Alley, stabbing bystanders as he made his escape. According to South China Morning Post, police opened fire on him after he ignored warning shots. The extent of his injuries have not been revealed, but Li was reportedly detained shortly afterwards.

Police said the man told them he'd had a financial dispute with family members and arrived in Chengdu on Sunday from his hometown of Jintang County.

This stabbing is just the latest in a spate of brutal attacks in recent weeks carried out by people bearing grudges against society or with mental illnesses.
