Chinese Companies Sold 40% of the World’s Smartphones in 2015

Global smartphone sales reached 1.292 billion last year. This marks an increase of 10.3% from the previous year reports TrendForce, a Taiwanese market research and analysis firm.

539 million phones were shipped by China-based vendors, accounting for 40% of global smartphone sales. Seven Chinese brands were included in the top 10 most popular companies.

In the third quarter of 2015, Huawei reached an 18.7% global market share. The Chinese company was the top seller in China, and the third globally. Huawei sales exceeded 100 million units: in 2015 the company sold 108 million phones, while Xiaomi sold 70 million.

Other top-selling Chinese brands included Xiaomi (12.7%), Lenovo (12.7%), TCL (10.4%), and Oppo (8.7%). Newcomers Vivo and Meizu reported sales of 40 million units and 20 million units respectively in 2015.
