China Ranked 2nd Globally for Tourism Revenue, 1st for Spending

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) recently reported that China brought in $114 billion in international tourism revenues 2015, replacing Spain as second the world. The United States is still ranked first in the world with $178 billion in tourism revenue.

Global tourism revenues rose 3.6% in 2014, totaling $1.4 trillion. This is an average of $4 billion spent every day. The number of international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) is 2015 reached 1.184 billion, an increase of 4.4%.

The international tourism industry now accounts for 7% of world exports and 30% of services exports. The percentage of total world exports increased from 6% to 7% in 2015, and the percentage of services exports increased by 2.8%.

Chinese tourists spent 25% more in 2015 than they did in the previous year. In 2015, 128 million Chinese tourists spent $292 million abroad. The number of Chinese tourists traveling abroad increased by 10%. That same year, 73 million U.S. tourists spent $120 million abroad, an increase of 9%. The number of U.S. tourists who traveled abroad in 2015 increased by 8%. Germany and Great Britain are ranked third and fourth, spending $76 billion and $63 billion respectively.
