The Shanghai third intermediate people’s court recently announced to the press that the court has been ruling a series of counterfeit trademark goods cases involving stores in the Hancheng Fashion & Accessories mall in Shanghai. One store has already been busted.

In September 2014, the police received a report of the 2f-22A shop in the Hancheng mall suspected of selling fake brand name jewelry and clothing, including brands like Chanel, Cartier, Hermes and Bvlgari.

The store was raided, and after a long investigation with the trademark right holders, it was discovered that 412 of the 497 items seized corresponded to counterfeit models sold on the market.

The identified market price of the items was over 10.7 million RMB. The accused party received a two-year prison sentence and two and half years of parole.

A number of related cases are still pending investigation. According to the court, the parties involved speak English at a high level and have mainly been targeting foreign tourists.
