88 Companies in Northern China Fined 70,000 RMB Each for Groundwater Pollution

After performing investigations in Beijing, Tianjin, as well as Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, and Henan provinces, the Ministry of Environmental Protection have fined 88 companies a total of 6.13 million RMB for groundwater pollution. The investigation found that within the 2,600+ companies checked, only 55 of them were employing methods to prevent the leakage of illegal sewage during the transport and storage of their goods.    

The ministry has given 424 companies time limits to clean up their acts, while Ma Yong, Head of the inspection Department of the Chinese Association of Environmental Protection service center said, “On average, each of the 88 companies have been fined around 70,000 RMB. However, the damage done regarding the groundwater pollution caused by these factories is much greater.”
