3 Die in Tiananmen Square After Car Crashes into Crowd & Catches Fire

Three people have died and several more have been injured at Tiananmen Square after a Jeep drove into a crowd and burst into flames. The accident occurred at 12:05 on October 28.

According to reports, the Jeep drove onto a pedestrian walkway near the main entrance of the Forbidden City injuring numerous tourists and police officers. The driver and two pedestrians died at the scene. All injured parties have been sent to hospital for treatment and no official statement regarding the cause of the crash has been issued to date.

Police closed the road that runs through the square and a nearby subway station closed at the request of police, according to reports. 

An investigation is currently underway.
