A recent photo depicting a staff member from the Fuyuan County Meteorological Bureau working in a flooded office has aroused suspicion among netizens.
The photo shows a man wearing waterproof pants and a life vest using a computer on his desk as he sits in waist-deep water. Not only have netizens expressed concern over the safety of using an electronic device while sitting in water, many believe that the photo is staged.
According to @中国气象网, all employees left on the morning of August 21. However, this worker stayed behind to back up all the data on the computers since none of the equipment was taken away. What’s more, the head of the Fuyuan County Meteorological Bureau Wu Yangang, put netizens’ concern over safery to rest by explaining that the electricity on the first floor and basement had already been switched off and that the electricity for the computer in the photo was supplied by a high-reaching line from outside.
That still hasn’t satisfied some netizens however, who insist that using an electrical device in a flood disaster zone is irresponsible and life-threatening.
