Father of Great Firewall of China Resigns; Told to Die ASAP by Netizens

Ever wondered who the man responsible for daily internet frustration in China is? Fang Binxing, often referred to as the “Father of the Great Firewall of China” doesn’t usually get a warm reception when he makes public announcements. In fact, his Chinese New Year greeting on Weibo earlier this year saw over 20,000 angry messages from users, which is almost in equal standing to the time he was pelted with eggs during a visit to Wuhan University back in 2011.

So what kind of response do you think he got when he announced that he was stepping down from his position as Principal of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications on June 26? Fang, citing his poor health as the reason for his resignation, saw his Weibo account flooded with wishes from users who hoped that, “The illness can defeat you ASAP!” Other posts ran along those lines, though there were a few (really only a few) that expressed concern that so many were so quick to wish Fang a speedy death.

Most foreigners do the same. Fast horribly and slow, please. Whatever disease you have, make sure it eats you alive from the inside out.
