Don’t think you have to be a professional, though. While most bars have professional dancers to give free lessons and show you how it’s done, people of all levels are welcome. 1) Mondays

Dance your Monday blues away with quite possibly the sexiest form of dancing on the planet. Mural hosts one of Shanghai’s most popular salsa nights, with a live Latin band and Salsa Shanghai’s professional instructors to help you get in the mood. The intimate underground location lends it an intimate feel, and everyone – from amateur to professional – have a blast. Things get moving around 19:00, so show up on time and take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free drinks (from 19:00-21:00) and no cover charge.

2) Tuesdays

Tuesday nights take a decidedly classy turn during Swing Night at Skyline. Beginning from 21:00, you can sit back and watch the Shanghai Swing Club jump into action or, if you’re feeling inspired, join them yourself. It’s 40 RMB to enter and that includes one drink. There are also various drink specials going on all night to help loosen your limbs, including five beers for 100 RMB. Skyline is a small venue, so make sure you get there early to snag a coveted seat down front so you don’t miss any of the action.

3) Thursdays

If you love all things Latin, head over to Le Royal Meridien Hotel on Thursday nights to get your fix. A live Latin band begins playing at 21:30, and the dancing just keeps going. From the Cha Cha to the Timba to Cuban Salsa, anything goes at this free event. Since variety is supposedly the spice of life, you might want to change things up that night with Tango at Skyline. A 40 RMB entry fee gets you one drink, not to mention the other drink specials going on there all night long. The action starts at 21:00 and goes till late.

4) Fridays

Friday nights are a double dose of sexy moves. First up is Glamour Bar, where Swing Night has officially returned! Listen to the Anne Evenou Quartet provide live music while David K. works the records. There is no entry fee and dress code has been labeled “essentially swing,” so take that as you will. Things get swingin’ at 21:00. If the Bund is just a bit too far to travel, head over to everyone’s favorite Western Cowboy themed steakhouse, Pinnacle Peak, for Cuba Night. Beginning at 21:30, there will be a mash up of Bachata, Merengue, and good old fashioned Cuban Salsa dancing. The entry fee is 50 RMB, which includes one drink. And if you get tired of dancing, there’s always the mechanical bull…

5) Saturdays

If you’re going to start the week with Mural, you might as well end with it there too. Saturday night is when they host their Latin Fever Party, where the band The Latin Union will serenade you through the wee hours with Cumbia, the Cha Cha, Bomba, and Salsa, among other tunes. The music starts around 21:00 and there’s no cover charge, with drink specials including three pints of Carlsberg for 100 RMB. The newly established Cool Docks is also getting in on the action, with a Latin Fever Party every week at Club One. Free entry gets you access to a live Latin band beginning at 21:30 for an all out salsa party.
