Topic: Fined & Shamed: Foreign Teacher Who Threw 5 Year-Old in Pool Pays the Price

"after Dongdong swam close enough, the man took her and raised her high in the air before throwing her back down into the meter-deep water"

Did he throw her into the pool (as Lulu is suggesting), THEN throw her again? Or was she already in the pool (as this passage suggests)?

It's very unclear what actually happened. If she was already swimming, that just sounds like FUN. I loved this kind of thing when I was 5.

Mike Hunt, fw208, Lulu: You seem to be very easily influenced by spin. Perhaps if you knew what happened you would be in a better position to pass judgement.

I guess that's exactly what happened, they were playing in the pool, the man grabbed her and threw her up and back into the pool like we all used to as kids and then she got picked up by the Chinese man who told her family and voila money making time...the foreign teacher is an idiot though because he has worked with these two faced animals before and should know better than to give a shark a wiff of fresh blood...

Did he actually throw her in the pool or was she already in the pool? It says she "swam" up close to him.

What a joke. Chinese are the first to complain when things happen to them, but are totally ignorant of the things they do to others.

As for Dongdong's grandmother being so distressed she had to "lie down", this was probably due to the fact that she is an old bat - not a physical sign of trauma. I need to lie down everytime I take the metro in Guangzhou - does this entitle me to compensation?

this just a warning to any foreigner in china who likes playing and smiling carelessly, this is what awaits your cheerfulness,i tried to help my student unfortunately she fell down and break her arm ,but the story was that i pushed her ,so i should pay compensation, since then i told them i have to quit and shame to you all......,let them tell us why did this guy throw the child,?this story is not clear, and if he didnt commit any unlawful thing ,why fine him? a simple sorry to the family is enough

yep heard that before. i was holding back a 5 year old kid by the upper arm, from going on a smashing spree in a classroom but was later told that i actually held the boy down on the ground by the neck and almost killed him.

amazing how what you do is twisted into BS. I refused to pay any compensation and that was the end of it as it was all lies. poor parents missed out on their free 20,000

Most places you work for will make some excuse to keep money from you. Anything for money in this country. Almost every time I get in a taxi here, the driver wants to take me on the scenic tour to take me where I'm going, even when I argue in Mandarin. The price is always higher anytime I shop anywhere that the price is not printed on the product. Luckily, my fiance is a local. Now I go to the store first, pick what I want, then send here in alone to buy it. Using this tactic can usually save me 100% from the "laowai" price. Most still believe the myth that all "laowai" are rich. Therefore stealing, cheating or over charging us is mei wen ti because we can afford it. Not to say that they don't try to take every last mao off of each other either. It's just more brazen towards "laowai".

jinan man

The truth is she was harrasing him repeatedly and deliberately got in his way in the swimming lane causing him to complain to the lifeguard and also the childs parents. Who did nothing to stop the child.
As she was swimming by (later). He was in the water, he raised her up and let her go. He speaks no chinese and the parents have influence and power in Jinan so the parents made a mountain out of a mole hill. Also the TV news is saying he also pretended to be a doctor when in fact he did an advert for a local medical company. They are saying he is a monster. He's actually a very soft spoken guy and he needs to excersise at the pool because of his heart surgery.
Shame on that family . Shame
The newspapers claim that the police looked at security footage but it is interesting that if there is a video of the incident it has not gone viral or been shown.
I'd say because it shows the truth , you know if it showed somthing bad you can bet money it would be already out there.

that sounds really bad.
But I think you miss the point, kids in china can do no wrong and all non-Chinese are evil raping monsters and killers of children.

China will never be taken serious by the rest of the world at this rate.

That is in the top 5 of pathetic answers you will get in China and really does say that people here love to be controlled.

I swam competitively for 14 years. This kind of stuff happens all the time in the US. The family just wanted money. Chinese people are apparently very weak when it comes to the water. Must be because it's all polluted.

Foreigners are not banned from talking politics you just don't want to say the wrong thing.

I used to throw kids clear across the pool. Good 5m if i could, nearly 10 if they jumped as the same time. and if they annoyed me i'd hold them under water for a second or two.
~i wonder how much shit i'd get into? :)

5000 years

The story is completely onesided and somewhat far from the real story, the cctv footage was just for the girls family and the police, not the public. Why?The teacher in question has not been asked of his own side of the story which ofcourse would be nothing short of the truth, The teacher has no history of violence or mental problems which could have led to such an action. besides, where were the parents when the child was all over the pool and obstructing other users in a public pool? , It's not cheap swimming at any crown plaza though, let alone being disturbed by a 5 years old .Did he call to order the kids parents? yes ! did any of them respect his call ?hell no! As an individual who rightfully deserve his space in the public pool it was just normal for him to move the abandoned kid on his path and keep on undisturbed.. Foreigners should be aware in China, if it's not the Chinese way then it is wrong and nothing would be justified as long as you are in China.

Your comment about the video footage was really incisive.

If there was actually any evidence on the video of a foreigner doing something wrong, it would be publically available, actively circulated, and all over the TV and internet.

When footage is not made available, the story is quite obviously a fabrication. Police have "reviewed" the evidence and "determined" that....

Sigh

20,000 rmb compensation for throwing a kid into a swimming pool? what halfwitted imbecile came up with that one?

once the kid had been thrown and it was apparent there were cameras, the parents would have deliberately dropped the catch anyway. Ah the money obessed chinese eh.

Arrogant tossers: the whole one billion of them.

I agree with your main point that it was a rediculous sum of money to pay for such a minor thing, but think you unfair in your labeling an entire nation as arrogant and money obsessed. A country that has experienced third world poverty in its recent history (many Chinese still do) is bound to be, to some extent, 'money obsessed'. As for calling all Chinese 'arrogant', the very suggestion that you think you know a nation of people 'that' well, that you can say such an ignorant and offensive thing is the absolute definition of arrogance itself.

just another example of chinese greed. parents saw an old foreigner and their greedy little eyes suddenly flashed with yuan signs. no wonder they let little girls die in a ditch. this is a country where they will try to squeeze every cent out of you if you let them. so be warned if you ever see anybody in need. get the hell out. because even if you save their kids life. they will try and get as much as their greedy little hands can get.

It is just because they are so poor. If there wasn't so much poverty in China, people wouldn't have this mentality. Rich people have it because it is a new rich mentality.
