Five year-old Huang Libing contracted Japanese encephalitis (meningitis B) from a mosquito bite and lies unconscious to this day, 82 days later.

Bing Bing as she is known, lives in the village of Longshi in the county of Shuanghuai in Hechuan (Chongqing). She did very well at kindergarten and always came out top of the class at school.

On the afternoon of July 19 at around 13:00, Bing Bing told her grandmother that the mosquito bite she recently received was especially painful. As mosquito bites are very common in the area at that time, the grandmother didn’t think too much of this news. However, when she complained of not feeling well and was taken to a doctor at a nearby village, Bing Bing was recorded with a fever temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius. Believing this to be an ordinary fever, Bing Bing was prescribed with fever medication and sent home to recuperate.

That night, however, Bing Bing had told her grandmother, “I don’t have any energy, and it seems I lack the strength to stand up by myself.” Realizing the gravity of the situation, the grandmother took Bing Bing to a nearby hospital, which then transferred Bing Bing to a county-level hospital, which then transferred Bing Bing again. It was only the next day when Bing Bing was finally admitted to a children’s hospital in Chongqing; however, it was during this transferring when Bing Bing lost consciousness and hasn’t awoken for a continuous 82 days.

Bing Bing is suffering from six separate illnesses that include an inflammation of the lungs, heart muscle damage, and Japanese encephalitis.

Upon contracting this illness, Bing Bing has incurred a hospital bill that stands at 140,000 RMB, a debt that is solely resting upon Bing Bing’s grandfather at the moment, a laborer who only makes 3500 RMB a month. In order to save money, Bing Bing’s father is forgoing a kidney stone operation.

Bing Bing’s doctor says that she is recovering, but can not specify when she will regain consciousness.

Now e-chinacities only has to open a bankaccount for us to deposit our donations for this little girl. See how fast a 140000 yuan bill could be paid by 400000 foreigners. Why not throw in the costs of dad's kidney stone operation as well.
