I think the biggest issue facing China is the same problem that the whole world has to face now, the economic crisis. China’s size and population are an issue, and how to turn the crisis into a better situation and make the inner market run in a reasonable way. To make the inner market run and organize this market in an equitable way is always something the government wants to do, this crisis just makes it happen quicker.

It seems the biggest issue for China is making sure there are enough jobs for their enormous population in both white and blue collar fields. Many graduates are not able to find any work in their field of expertise or have to take jobs that are far below their skill level. Or worse, they aren't able to find work at all.  Also, many migrant workers are finding it difficult to maintain a steady income, which is problematic as whole rural families often rely on one person's wage to subsidize their cost of living.  Without enough jobs, civil and social unrest will become a threat to the government's credibility and livelihood.

Health care, education ,social welfare( 社会福利),the poor and rich group of people have a great gap between each other. I am not saying that everyone should be the same, but we do need some kind of equality.

I don't know what the biggest issue is, but i hope that it has something to do with water use. 1 billion+ people live in a severely polluted country with a considerable desert...  call me a tree hugger.

In my opinion, the biggest issue facing China is unemployment, especially among university graduates. With the expanded enrollment of university students, there are more university graduates each year. While, with the bad influence of the global financial crisis, there are not enough job vacancies for these graduates. More joblessness will result in more social problems. If it is not solved well, social disturbance may be created.

How to keep the ever growing numbers of unemployed graduates from losing hope in the system.

I think this year is the anniversary of many of China's difficulties, so whether or not we can peacefully get through this historically significant time is the main problem for this year.

The biggest issue facing China in the coming year would have to be whether or not Xiao Shenyang will steal Zhao Benshan's comedy routine limelight in the run up to the 2010 Spring Festival show. No, seriously, the biggest problem is probably going to be how China copes with the added international attacks it recieves as a result of becoming a much bigger player on the global level.

Stability, harmony, development. Hahaha.

China like many other nations is facing domestic issues which I feel will overcome them in time; the roof of a house may leak from changes in weather and can be repaired, but the foundation must be strong to support and endure the changes of the elements.

Not only maintaining a certain percentage of economic growth, but also paying more attention to the quality of the growth

Definitely one the biggest issues facing China this year is the expansion of the internet. Recently, bloggers have been wielding more and more power to influence events and instigate action, even on the governmental level. I think Wen Jiabao’s online talk is evidence that even the highest levels of government have realized they can’t control the blogosphere through blocks or intimidation. So, it will be especially interesting to see how the government comes to term with this and how Chinese netizens decide to wield their power – will they continue to go after government officials or will they focus more on cheating husbands (both things that happened this year). All the other problems China faces will be amplified and compounded by the reactions on the net.

I this very question is a fundamental problem, why are people still trying to figure out what China's biggest problem is? What about America? There's the Iraq problem and the financial crisis. Japan? With their generation of urban recluse men and women. South Korea? They have a problem with stars killing themselves. Every country has issues they can't resolve and will always be problems; everyone should pay attention to the things China has already handled very well: a successful Olympics, and the upcoming World Expo. China needs affirmation and encouragement!
