Yongsheng Band Village Closed Down for Substandard Fire Safety Regulations
Apr 15, 2014 By eChinacities.com

After the huge fire at the Jianye building on December 15 last year, fire safety regulations have become much stricter and the Band Village on Yongsheng Street has fallen victim to the tightened regulations.

The venue management was given the order to clear out by April 7. The Band Village is a 200 square meter underground space, consisting of nine practice rooms and, until its closure, served as the rehearsal place for about 18 Guangzhou bands, making its closure a huge blow for the Guangzhou rock scene.

On the evening of April 6 the community management company gave the order for the premises to be vacated by 09:30 the next morning. Dedicated fans of the venue turned up to dance, drink and reminisce. They partied until the last moment, when the festivities came to a screeching halt as the iron doors were closed for the last time.
