Xinjiang Hit by Worst Snowstorm in 60 Years

The worst snowstorm in six decades has wreaked havoc on northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region dumping 94 centimeters of snow at the Altay Weather Station, seen here on January 17, 2010. Across the region the average depth of snow was 50 centimeters at 5 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2010, with the deepest hitting one to two meters in some mountainous locations, according to Shi Yuguang, chief of the regional weather bureau.
