Yesterday evening, X'ian welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with elaborate fanfare. Men dressed as classical warriors and women dressed as palace maids lined up outside Xi'an Ancient City Wall to greet Modi. Also included in the welcoming ceremony were “officials,” dressed in Tang Dynasty costumes. Shaanxi governor Lou Qinjian presented Modi with a symbolic passport, and Xi'an city major Dong Jun gifted him a golden key. The drawbridge was then lowered and the gate to the city slowly opened. Modi walked through the gate into the old city, symbolizing his official entrance into China.
