Xi Jinping Not a Fan of Fish, Rejects Proposed Buckingham Palace Banquet Menu

Xi Jinping Not a Fan of Fish, Rejects Proposed Buckingham Palace Banquet Menu
Oct 15, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Xi Jinping is preparing for his state visit to the United Kingdom on October 20, and has already taken issue with the menu for his welcome luncheon at Buckingham Palace. Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan have politely declined the proposed seasonal turbot and crab starters because they only eat cured or smoked fish.

The Daily Mail has also reported that the Chinese delegation will bring their own water. At the same time, the Chinese delegation has indicated that they are looking forward to eating the food prepared by the royal chef and team.

The royal family also serves fine dishes when greeting guests. The Queen herself suggested that turbot be on the menu. Prince William, who will attend the banquet with his wife Kate, also has said he will not eat the coriander sauce accompanying the dish in question.

Royal staff are accustomed to dealing with a wide range of dietary restrictions, however this sometimes becomes a headache because they prefer to use seasonal ingredients.

Menu aside, the royal family is looking forward to Xi’s visit. In addition to the welcome luncheon, there will also be a state dinner held at Buckingham Palace that evening for the Chinese president and his wife.

On The Long March Mao and his soldiers boiled and ate their shoes to stave off starvation. How things have changed.

There are many examples of people eating non-edible ingredients throughout history. Your boiled shoes reminds me of other examples of that, such as eating tree bark or dirt or drinking blood and what have you.
