Shanghai World Expo has triggered a travel high tide this summer as visitors streamed into the city from all over China – usually by train or by plane. But on July 7th, it was revealed that a 'super swimmer' from Wuhan will forgo traditional transportation and rely on his swimming abilities to take him down Yangtze River to the Expo Park in Shanghai. The whole trip is expected to take 35 days and cover a swim distance of 1,200 km.

Bao Zhengbin is the said swimmer who has always loved to swim and has crossed the Yangtze River at different points several times already – holding a personal record of successfully crossing the river five times in one day. People have bestowed upon him the title 'Super Swimmer of Wuhan'. Bao said that he wants to do this challenge for two reasons: 1. to do this for himself and bag yet another personal record; 2. to educate people in cities along the Yangtze River about the importance of protecting China's mother river from further pollution. To ensure his safety, Bao has rented an escort boat to accompany him on the trip and has equipped himself with a communication device that can operate underwater. Bao will shoulder the expenses of the trip on his own.
