World’s Most Admired 2016: Xi Jinping 3rd to Bill Gates and Obama

The UK’s YouGov recently released the World’s Most Admired 2016, in which international stars and politicians are ranked according to how much the public respects them. Microsoft founder Bill Gates is the world’s most admired person, U.S. President Barack Obama is second, and Chinese president Xi Jinping is third.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is ranked eight, which is higher than Pope Francis. Other Chinese figures included on the list are Jackie Chan (#4), Jack Ma (#10), Andy Lau (#17) and Jay Chou (#19).

Russian president Vladimir Putin is ranked sixth and India’s Narendra Modi is ninth. Other well-known figures on the list include Stephan Hawking (#5), Mark Zuckerberg (#7), David Beckham (#11), and Lionel Messi (#12).

Women are ranked separately. Angelina Jolie was the most admired woman for the second year in the row. Queen Elizabeth II came in second and U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is third. Others in the top ten include U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama (#5), German chancellor Angela Merkel (#8), and Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi (#9).

YouGov’s survey was conducted in 30 different countries and consisted of two questions: “Who do you respect (You can write more than one name)?” and “Who do you respect the most (You can write only one name)?”
