The world’s largest “clone factory,” will be established in the Tianjin Development Zone. The lab will work on cloning pet dogs, primates, high-quality beef, racing horses, livestock and other animals. The project is a collaboration between Tianjin-based Yingke Boya Gene Technology, Peking University Clinical Research Institute, Tianjin International Joint Academy of Biomedicine, and South Korea’s Sooam Biotech Research Foundation.

Cloning can detect and prevent disease patterns within breeds, and improve the quality of modern livestock. 200 million Yuan has been invested in the project. The facility will feature a state of the art animal cloning lab, and a biodiversity and genetic exhibition center and resource library.

Yingke Boya Gene Technoloy is a subsidiary of UK giant Burson-Marsteller. Burson-Marsteller and Sooam Biotech have already worked together on commercialized cloning projects. By the end of 2015, the company had provided 550 cloned dogs in many countries around the world, including China.

Land of 1.3 billion clones, well deserved. But will this cloning factory compete with the existing cloning factories (schools)?
