Sep 30, 2010 By eChinacities.com

The new Shanghai-Hangzhou high speed railway broke the world high speed railway record during a trial with a speed of 413.7 km/h at 10:40 on Sept. 28th. It is scheduled to begin operation in late October. The new high speed train will be able to reach Hangzhou in 38 minutes from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station—40 minutes less than the currently fastest bullet train between the two cities.

For the time being, ticket fares are still being decided. The second class ticket price for the 160-kilometer-long railway is likely to be more than 75 RMB and the first class ticket price more than 100 RMB.
