Woman Sends Mom Xiaomi Phone, Mom Receives Actual Bag of Rice
Sep 14, 2015 By eChinacities.com

A woman received a bag of rice instead of the Xiaomi phone sent by her daughter after a mix-up by the courier company. Delivery company STO eventually agreed to compensate the woman in full for the loss of her property.

Liu sent the phone with STO from Henan to her mother in Kaifeng. Three days later, her mother was surprised to receive a bag of rice in the mail, and rejected the package.

At first, STO would not take full responsibility for the mix-up and offered to compensate the woman 50 Yuan for her 700 Yuan phone.

Liu threatened to contact the media, and STO upped the compensation offer to 500 Yuan after a bit of “bargaining.”

Liu was disappointed with STO and insisted that they pay the full price of the phone in compensation. In the end, after Liu contacted the media with the story, STO agreed to pay the full price of the phone.

What a shocker. Just imagine all the stories like this you DON'T hear or read. Typical attitude of 'not my problem' that really irritates me in this country. Just like the guy who came to fix my freezer. He came during the daytime when I was out working and all the frozen food went bad. Not only that but he moved the entire unit somewhere else in the apartment. I contacted him about the food that melted/went bad. He said it's not his problem because he had to fix the freezer. A small example for sure, but it was his attitude about it that pissed me off. Situations like these are really a new pet peeve for me after I came to China. I'm sure you all have stories. Share share :P

Really, he came into your apartment when you were out, so he had a spare key and just entered your apartment unannounced? You couldn't arrange for him to come after your work or on the weekend? Or you couldn't store some things temporarily in a neighbor's freezer? Sounds like you didn't plan this through well.

hi2u, you apparently don't understand. I live on campus and the workers have a key to apartments. I had to complain to the staff. The workers would just walk into my apartment, luckily, I was there. However, I am sure there were times i was not there.

Well in that case that sounds like a pretty bad situation to be in. Maybe you could just change the lock yourself. Nothing in the contract that says you can't probably.

LoL... idiots... why not just initially fess up and compensate her as they NOW HAVE DECIDED TO DO? Would have saved them a lot of bad public press but nope, that's how many Chinese companies (and people) work. Not really forward thinking people.
