A cashier at the Ministry of Health was recently sentenced to eight years imprisonment for embezzling public funds after it emerged that she had stolen 6 million RMB in order to fund her boyfriend’s business.
44 year old Pan met a British man, whose name was given as Gerald, online in May 2012. He claimed to be an oil rig engineer in Saudi Arabia, and told Pan of an off shore project that he needed capital for. He asked Pan to help out and lend him some money, and so Pan did, despite only knowing him for four months.
Pan then stole six blank checks and stamped them with an official seal, nicked from a colleague. Over the next two months, she took money six times, and used it to invest in Gerald’s project.
The People’s Court of Chaoyang sentenced her to eight years and ordered her to pay back 5.4 million RMB of the money.

I don't agree. Not all Chinese paint westerner as frauds. We are kind and most of us show hospitality to westerners. Probably only the old and poorly educated kinds are prejudiced against foreigners.

lol ....i need to find some of these chicks....they got to put a foreigner in everything....like he hypnotized her and took the money....lol...most probably he told her she could go there and start a life and to that she stole the money.....my friends tell me great opportunities in harbin, doesnt mean i rob a bank and the news should say harbin friend made shanghai guy steal 5 million from a bank...idiots... simple title "Govt. official embezzeled 6 million, sentenced 5 years"... not "woman stole money to get laid overseas and eat 5 star noodles for the rest of her life in dubai because of crook british boy friend"....duh...

She didn't steal the money FOR HIM. SHE stole it and GAVE it to him. Makes it sound like the foreigner is to blame... like usual. The title makes it like he (British guy) coaxed the poor, innocent girl into stealing the money for him.

Rob: I'll go one step further. "used it to invest in Gerald’s project" She stole it for herself. She invested it with him. When you invest, you invest with the hope getting more than you put in. But she was too stupid, after stealing that kind of money, leave the damn country. And what the hell is up with stealing 6 mil and being told to payback 540 mil. Is there a typo? Or is this just fake news to make foreigners look bad?
