For anyone unfamiliar with the joke, the phrase “cao ni ma” means “f**k your mother”, though due to online censorship, China’s ever-savvy netizens began using the similarly-pronounced word “草泥马”, meaning “grass mud horse”, as a way to express profanity without getting in trouble with China’s censors.
Anyway, a Wenzhou woman named Lin Jie who owns a crop of land on the outskirts of Hangzhou, recently decided to turn a section of it into her own personal zoo. The zoo’s only resident, a white rabbit, was joined on May 23 by a “grass mud horse” (really an alpaca), which Lin had shipped over from Australia for a cool 100,000 RMB.
A subtle attempt at defiance towards censorship in China or just one woman expressing her affection for cute and cuddly animals? You decide.
