Wild Monkey Enters Sichuan Home, Leaps Up On Table to “Play Mahjong”

We’ve all heard the expression “a barrel of monkeys”, and it seems this same expression with Chinese characteristics doesn’t use a “barrel”, but the other signifier of fun and games in China: a mahjong table!

On the afternoon of October 7 at around 13:10, in Mianzhu County in the city of Leshan, several tourists were playing a game of mahjong when a wild monkey suddenly appeared. As it showed its teeth, the tourists notified police and then left the scene. However, the monkey did not seem perturbed in the slightest; in fact, it picked up a mahjong tile on the table and “played” it!

According to local residents, this is a wild monkey that has been running amok lately by entering people’s houses and even groping young children. Firefighters caught the monkey and handed him over to police, who later released it at the E’Mei Mountain Scenic Area.

What a funky monkey! Good thing it was only a mahjong table.
