Under Investigation: Consular Vehicle Gets into Accident in Beijing
Jun 12, 2016 By eChinacities.com

A passenger car with embassy plates and a private car were in an accident near Sanyuan East Bridge in Beijing this past Wednesday evening. The Chaoyang police were immediately dispatched to the scene and the incident is under investigation by the district’s traffic police.

A woman injured in the accident posted on Weibo, Friday night complaining that the diplomat living in her home country is not required to abide by Chinese law. In her post she said that the car had plates from the U.S. Embassy and the police said that the driver may have diplomatic immunity.

The injured woman was interviewed by a Global Times reported on WeChat yesterday. She said that “the police are investigating the case and I will respect the normal procedure.” She had no further comment about the case.

The U.S. Embassy has not replied to QQ News’ request for a comment. Sources say that the Embassy may be slow to reply because of the recent holiday.

What should you do if you get into an accident with a consulate vehicle? QQ News has tried to contact the police to answer this question, but has not been about to get a response.

I think we're all missing the point, when is it illegal to get into an accident? All of a sudden this is an attack on china? Chinese companies don't pay their workers, ok. Chinese don't follow traffic laws and kill many in New Zealand, ok. But a simple accident and ... China, so weak.

Even without immunity they still rape, like the guy who did it on the streets of Beijing 2 years ago, and the repeated rape of Japanese by soldiers. No way to sit on moral high grounds here!

The us embassy is not allowed to have security guards that are not chinese, i wonder if the driver was in fact chinese. tell us the rest of the story.

I'm pretty sure the driver was a white American. I have seen a few diplomatic cars here and they were all driven by a whitey.

Guest you are an idiot, China requires guards and service staff in embassies to be Chinese, local employment, stuff like that.

every diplomat is above the law, that is why it's called diplomatic immunity, that's why vetting these people before you place them is very important.
