45 American businesses and professional groups have signed a letter to the National People's Congress urging them to amend the proposed law that would increase the regulation of foreign NGOs.
The NPC's law committee announced the draft of the new law which covers the management of foreign NGOs in early May.
The Chinese government has said in the past that the new law will benefit foreign NGOs because it will help determine their legal status. Officials say the law will also promote national security.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the signatories from the U.S. included companies in entertainment, tech, agriculture, and other industries.
