US Confirms That Chinese Drywall is Harmful to Humans
May 05, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has confirmed that a specific drywall that is imported from China is harmful to humans and leads to definite side effects. More than 20,000 homes in the US have installed the offending drywall resulting in tens of thousands of Americans being exposed.

The symptoms of long term exposure to the hydrogen sulfide given off by the wall are nosebleeds, headaches, respiratory problems and asthma relapses. The walls, built mainly between 2004 and 2008, have been leading to severe health problems among home owners ever since, and this admonition is the first from any government agency.

A lawsuit for around 1 billion USD has been filed with customers seeking compensation and Chinese firms refusing to pay. There has been a ban on Chinese drywalls since 2012.

The Specific drywall referred to here is Taishan Gypsym out of Beijing and thousands of U.S dealing with this disaster. . Homeowners are suffering dealing with this long drawn out disaster. The drywall makes you very sick. So much so you must leave the property with your family. It costs over 100,000 dollars to fix the problem because there has to be a perminant fix which includes removal of drywall, removal of all wiring and mechanicals in home fo r the drywall has corroded all of that and is now a fire hazard. Homes must be gutt down to studs with a crew in hazmat suits then thouroughly cleaned and vacuumed down before rebuilding. This is not something a homeowner can do theirselves. Most of us are paying a mortgage on that property and paying for alternate living. What you dont read about is the finacial fall out with this. Insurance companies have won their suits to not be responsible to pay any of this. Banks donot care the home is unlivable...pay the mortgage of foreclose. The government let this toxic product come right in and has refused to offer any temporary assistance or to include fema in this diaster because ot was not a natural disater. So we all wait. This has been going on for 5 years. Even this study was completed in 2011 and just now being released to the public. Most of us have jad no choice bit to walk away short sale

It is terrible. It is also a good argument for changing regulations for products and services. Instead of just allowing things to go to market, perhaps there needs to be a bit of government foresight, in asking for products to be tested by an independent, government sanctioned group. So instead of just favoring the business and money, the government actually puts the welfare of Americans first. As you said, the monetary cost is huge and so is the stress factor and health. Bankruptcy , mental and physical health all in one.

a specific drywall... which brand is that? I have never heard of "a specific" drywall. Imagine that a Chinese company refuses to pay out. Kind of make you think that you should never ever ever ever ever buy anything ever from China. Why doesn't the government in China step in and force this company to do so? Does China not care about protecting it's public image around the world.... *add over the top studio audience laughter track here*

Of course China wants to protect its image... and it does that by accusing everyone of being racist, and hurting the feelings of China, if they talk about any problem related to China.
