Two Foreigners Overstay Visa, One For 3 Years

Two Foreigners Overstay Visa, One For 3 Years
Jan 27, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Two foreigners, of unidentified nationalities, have been caught overstaying their visas, and one even stayed up to three years past the expiry date.

The person, called Ma Mou, came to China to start a business in 2009. By 2011 the business had collapsed so he looked for an agent to help him get a new visa. The agent was unable to help him but he decided to stay anyway and spent the next three years living in China illegally, purposefully staying at home a lot in order to not draw any attention to himself. He was caught at the end of December in Weihai, charged with a 5,000 RMB fine, deported, and can’t return to China for five years.

The other man, named Lim, came to China to visit his girlfriend in Dalian. When the two broke up he decided to stay on unperturbed by his failure to find an alternative visa solution. He was caught having overstayed by 37 days, fined 10,000 RMB (curiously more than Ma Mou) and told to formally extend his visa.

Well said Guest1015198 I have been to China 26 times in the past 8 years, usually it’s not by choice but for business purposes. I continue to be disgusted by the immoral and unethical behaviour exibited by some (not all) Chinese people (mainly men). Many Chinese think that because China has the biggest population that it is the best country. No mate, it is quality and not quantity that makes a great civil society. Picking up on what Guest1015198 said, the them and us syndrone is very evident in Chinese society. I believe it stems from the knowledge that China is an immoral and unethical country, which causes Chinese people to lose face. As a consequence they become defensive and attack foreigners out of frustration and embarrasement. The trouble is that the country is dragged down by endemic graft and corruption which children are exposed to in primary school. Children see their parents paying teachers for extra lessons, out of fear that their children will be discriminated against by the teachers if they don't comply. Children grow up believing that bribery, corruption, tax evation and immoral affairs are normal adult behaviours and so these practices become the norm for Chinese society's value. Foreign countries are not perfect, we have our share of immoral and unethical pbehaviours too. But most people condem it and speak out against it. So I'm proud to be called a foreigner as it infers that I am a reasonably moral and ethical person.

The original report clearly hints that they are both Korean.

Why was the guy that overstayed 3 years charged less than the guy that stayed 37 days? By the names, it suggests they are Koreans or Asians themselves. So the people couldn't just tell the reporters which country? Not like they had their passports or anything to look from...

China had an illegal hiding from immigration inside the country for 3 years! Yay, tell everyone you know - zhongguo is now officially a developed nation. A single foreign person really wanted to be here! oh, and lets put a suggestive picture of a british passport for good measure. mission accomplished!

Well, each country has its own laws. Being an foreigner has to follow its laws. The thing is the local chinese is also sick and tired of their own fellow countrymen being assholes too, so they have to find a scapegoat such as foreigner to condemn especially the younger guys usually young grads who are not happy in their work becoz some foreigner are getting all the attention and higher pay. LOL.

*********PLEASE STOP CALLING EVERYONE A FOREIGNER*************** I have to say that I like to browse echinacities.com just because of lack of websites in English in China. But I come across Articles written about foreigners being caught over staying and working illegally and all matters of visa things, like teaching without permit and this has increase since the new rules have been implemented in July 2013. First in all countries in the world we call people by their Nationality. Not a foreigner. This is ChinEnglish. If you go to Paris we will ask you if you are Chinese not if you are a foreigner we call an Italian..Italian not a foreigner…we call an Indian.. Indian not a foreigner.I don’t know what is wrong with China putting everyone in the same basket .it’s like you are saying we Chinese against you foreigners…is that it? Do you want all the foreigners to leave? You can just say it…then maybe we can send you all the Chinese that live abroad back..and bring you back to your miserable rice bowl life that you had before. So be educated and be polite as we in many countries give you right like ours even if you were born in China and immigrate to Australia or USA …ETC. Now this resentment over Foreigners and , the fact that this country has the least rights for it’s people and for foreigners to obtain any legal way of living rises a big question if we as other countries should even consider doing business with China. I Mean you can marry a Chinese woman or man and not even be allowed to work according to the law…what is this called? Which countries do this? Non developed countries.? No only China… China is a special place..a special race. A special what ever…I think China is just another country in the world and you better start writing things properly and open up fast before it’s too late and you anger the whole world…we can see a trend in business hitting back China…we can see many countries closing the doors of business to China..one day a cheap product will not get you far beyond the great wall. Countries have realized that China has harmed the world economics.. so before you speak about that African you have deported because he stayed illegally that your country is selling a ton of shit to. You can start considering changing the word Foreigner to the Nationality you are talking about and have your government stop making laws about foreigners when there are more than 300.000.000 Chinese living abroad and only 100.000 in China…start by being fair or we will have culture problems in the future followed by wars. And Trust me.. many countries don’t like Chinese way of thinking.. You can translate what I said here in Chinese so all of you can have some respect for each foreigner. As we do for Chinese abroad.

I agree with your rant, that is sad state of things. However... The site shows translations of Chinese news items. Of course, most of the readers are not Chinese, so your rant is quixotic, really. Are you 100% sure about who run this website ? Maybe the website is funded by its job & market section, and the news item is to generate traffic ? Again, I understand the rant, but writing this here and concluding on "is there some people to translate my rant to Chinese, so you guys get the message ?" is a storm in a tea cup.

"Two foreigners, of unidentified nationalities," Seriously, it's the first damn line of the article that they don't know what nationality they are. Much as the use of the term as a blanket for everyone not Chinese should be stopped, there's not much they can do about it in this case.

you're trying to correct the nationality problem by contradicting yourself by also saying 'African who have been deported' Africa is a continent and not a country. Also why do u discriminate , do you think only Africans got overstay ? Take it easy man , every nation got its bad sides and your country isn't an exemption .

Bit of a shame that you can't seem to take the time to read as far as word five, let alone the whole three paragraph saga, of the article before firing off a brain dead rant about people who are foreign being labelled "foreigners". Also, kudos for demanding that Chinese people, who I am reasonably sure didn't translate the article that in Chinese doesn't use the word "foreigner", "be polite" and "have some respect" while waving their poverty, past and present, in their faces. Well done, big man. Note: when writing about visa and immigration related issues, their might be a rather slight chance that the word foreigner could be a somewhat relevant word in the discourse, no? Or have you banned yourself from using any collective words whatsoever? No animals at the zoo? No children at the school? No fruit in the shop? We are all unique little snowflakes floating among discreet air particles, aren't we? P.S. You misspelt "Chinglish". Badly.

I dont think what this writter is saying has anything bad, its very bad when you are married in china with a family and are allowed to stay in china but cant work, this is a very hard situation, it makes no sense. The earlier china speeds up its reforms to accomodate the world the better.
