On November 24, the Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the Turkistan Islamic Party made public an 8 minute long, in which, a man named Abdullah Mansour stated that the violent car crash that occurred on October 28 at Tian’anmen Square was “a holy act of war” and that the persons responsible for the crash were “holy warriors”. He threatened that his group will carry out more attacks upon other areas and places throughout China such as the Great Hall of the People. Throughout the video Mansour kept his face covered and spoke in the Uighur language. This was the statement made by the Turkistan Islamic Party since the attack on Tian’anmen Square.

Where exactly IS Turkistan? Therein might lie the motivation for this, and other attacks. Putting a 'Holy' label on it could be just a matter of convenience. Nevertheless, the issue is a serious one, esp for those living in the far west.

Vyborg

(Placename) an extensive region of central Asia between Siberia in the north and Tibet, India, Afghanistan, and Iran in the south: formerly divided into West (Russian) Turkestan (also called Soviet Central Asia), comprising present-day Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan and the S. part of Kazakhstan, and East (Chinese) Turkestan consisting of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. This is what thefreedictionary.com has to say about it, but read Wikipedia on 'east Turkestan' (and 'west-', of course) and you'll find some more nuance. It seems the last war has yet to be fought.
