As the main east-west traffic artery, the Metro Line 5 will begin service by the end of this year. By then, citizens in the eastern part of Guangzhou can reach various districts in Guangzhou City within 30 minutes. It is estimated that, at least 500,000 people will benefit from the project. Metro Line 5 is also the line with the most intra-transfer stations and this will involve as many as 10 transfer stations (two of which are reserved) and will link up several metro lines in Guangzhou. Thus, a 30-minute living circle came into being. At the same time, it will greatly ease traffic pressures for the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
