"Trial Run” for a Hengqin Island Special Economic Zone Approved (Zhuhai)

Hengqin Island, located west of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to Macau, is comprised of an area that is about 106 sq. km in size. In the past, it has been left completely undeveloped, but recently, China approved plans to construct a “Hong Kong style” Special Economic Zone there. All imported goods destined for the island will be exempted from import duties as long as they are not destined for other areas on the mainland.
