On March 9th, the Hangzhou City Court held the trial for an armed robbery case that occurred late last year. The defendant in the case is a 22-year-old man surnamed Jin who picks up trash for a living. According to his own testimony, last October 23rd around 04:00, wearing a black cap, he was out walking on the street when he spotted a single woman in a black dress at the Qingnian Lu intersection cross the street and enter a 24-hour ATM service area at a Industrial and Commercial Bank of China branch.

As she was preparing her deposit, Jin entered the service area, abruptly came up behind her and groped her. The girl pushed him away, but Jin went in to grope her again and lifted up her dress. The girl screamed "What are you doing, let go!" and an alarm promptly went off in the ATM service area. Surprised by this, Jin turned for the door and ran away. An overnight security guard, who saw the incident occur on a security camera, was the one who triggered the alarm. Soon after, the police caught Jin in the entrance of a late-night restaurant on Jiefang Lu. They found him in possession of a knife. After he was arrested, Jin confessed that he had intended to rob the woman at knifepoint. While he has not yet been sentenced, experts expect that he will be given 1-4 years in jail.
