Tianjin Residents Protest News Conference Asking for Compensation
Aug 18, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Tianjin residents protested with banners, asking for compensation for damaged homes outside of the sixth press conference after the warehouse explosion. The site was orderly, and four or five police officers stood silently watching the protests in front of the hotel.

Some tried to approach the officers to speak with them. Police whispered to express sympathy to those families affected by the disaster, but did not want to start any trouble.

Protesters asked for the government to repurchase destroyed property from those whose homes were ruined in the blast. Tianjin residents said that those with homes 800 meters from the explosion site did not have housing security. They are concerned about toxic gases near their homes, and cracks in housing foundation.

The Vice Minister of Tianjin's Propaganda Department responded that the government will have solutions to the issues.

Yeah, don't ask for transparency, don't ask for accountability, don't ask for justice, just ask for your pittance and move on. And yeah, express your anger, make your claims... but, you know, without creating any trouble... just keep it quiet til you're out of eyesight. That sure will move mountains.
