Officials have confirmed that construction plans for Metro Line 2 will include an eastward extension to Tianjin Binhai International Airport. Currently, plans for a Metro Line 2 westward extension to Yangliuqing are still in the works.

According to the plans, Tianjin’s Metro Line 2, excluding the branch extensions, traverses from the west of the city to the east. The stations on the 22.79 km long line will be Caozhuang – Yan'an Rd – Jieyuanxi Rd – Xianyang Rd – Hongqi Rd – Qingnian Rd – Xi'nanjiao – Gulou – Dongnanjiao – Jianguo Rd – Tianjin Railway Station – Xinkai Rd – Hongxing – Jingjiang Rd – Cuifu New Village – Shaliu Rd – Boshan Rd – Jinchi Rd – Limingzhuang. Constructions are scheduled to be completed in June, 2011.

Once completed, Metro Line 2 will connect Tianjin Railway Station to Tianjin Binhai International Airport. In the near future, with the completion of nine metro transit lines in the city, it will be easy to reach Line 2, and thus Tianjin Railway Station and Tianjin Binhai International Airport, from anywhere in the city, making it very convenient and affordable to travel in and out of Tianjin.
