Thee Chinese movies have been nominated for a Golden Globe this year. Zhang Yimou’s Coming Home, Peter Chan’s Dearest and Han Han’s The Continent will be fighting off fierce competition from 50 other nominations from around the world in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The winners are decided by a panel of around 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a collective of international journalists who operate out of San Francisco. They will be deciding the winners the awards across 24 categories.

However, several film critics have suggested that the films lack cultural crossover appeal and so are unlikely to win.

5 Chinese films were nominated last year including Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmaster and Jia Zhangke’s A Touch of Sin, but none succeeded in winning the coveted prize.

I guess the question here is: was it plain corruption, or part of a bigger deal for getting perks like http://www.images.profile.echinacities.com/news/Subtitled-Foreign-Entertainment-Websites-Shut-Down plus a bunch of movies/shows going to official channels and actually generating revenues from China.
