This US Guy in Shanghai Now Knows Why You Don’t Buy Girlfriend 800K Car
Aug 06, 2013 By eChinacities.com

At first it seemed like a picture-perfect coupling: she (Ms. Li) a famous ballet dancer from Shanghai and he (Mr. Qu) an A.B.C. with a lot of dough. After meeting in May 2008, the pair quickly hooked up and began a relationship.

In May 2012, Mr. Qu decided to buy his girlfriend a present, presumably for their anniversary. Rather than wanting something modest like a romantic dinner or even an ipad, Ms. Li set her eyes on a super fancy Mercedes-Benz. To appease his girlfriend’s expensive taste, Mr. Qu went ahead and dished out 800,000 RMB on the car. The car was initially bought under Mr. Qu’s father’s name, but they later transferred the ownership to Ms. Li.

Not long after receiving the swanky four-wheeled present, Ms. Li broke up with Mr. Qu for reasons unknown. Soon, this break-up escalated into a legal battle whereby Qu’s father demanded Li return the car because it was given as an “engagement present”. However, Li argued that she and Qu decided to cohabit rather than marry and the car was a proof of his love for her. Moreover, she claimed that the car was now in her name and that he has no further claim over it. She also went on to argue that there were no financial motives behind her relationship with Qu and that the pair had always split the bills 50:50.

However, in the end the judge ordered Qu to pay 250,000 RMB back to Qu’s father but allowed her to keep the car.

And this is why it’s best for all involved to stop with whole materialism obsession thing and just buy something small but thoughtful for goodness sake!

i'm reading these comments and thinking how can anyone be mad at the girl? he was a twit. if you can't afford to lose the car then why buy it for her? the judge must have been paid off by the father. because how can you make sb pay for what was a gift? just because sb has a shat load of money doesn't mean they're not a loser. this guy is a clear example. learn how to please a woman in bed and you'll never even have to think about buying her anything. and by the way , don't buy any woman anything (outside of normal b-day, v-day c-day or small thoughtful gifts)

The-Final-Say

If anyone has ever watched the dating show, Feicheng Wurao, there was once a girl named Ma Nuo, fit to be a model with her good looks, who said to some poor contestant, "I'd rather cry in the back of a BMW than laugh on the back of your bicycle". This is a common attitude of most elite Chinese girls. In order to win them, you need to have something they do not have, be it money and possessions, citizenship to desireable countries, or anything that will enhance their life. Their love is fake and most end up divorced while the man ends up with half his stuff and a broken heart. To these girls, I only wish they would find themselves as some rich, old, fat, diseased man's playtoy when they reach their final beauty years, and then suffer the consequences of a painful old age alone. But, the attitude won't improve, only get worse. With tens of millions more men than women in China, thanks to 1 child policy and also the need to have sons, women will only get more spoiled. If you are a family and bear a daughter with any kind of looks, she will be your gold mine now. Gone are the days when women break their feet to fit binded shoes and kowtow to their masters as second, third, and fourth options within the mansion. This is not to say that I support polygamy, I feel it is immoral. But unless there is an event that reduces the men's numbers (could happen), this attitude will get worse. I wouldn't even be surprised to read stories, 20 years later on, that women keep several husbands around the house. But hey, this is coming from a country that allows discriminatory holidays such as "Womens Day" while men are expected to work and slave 24/7 and cannot even come home and expect a little appreciation or an occasional "I love you" to be uttered.

I'm glad that I'm constantly told how oppressed women are in Chinese society. Otherwise, if I was going just by evidence, I wouldn't have guessed.

'the judge ordered Qu to pay 250,000 RMB back to Qu’s father but allowed her to keep the car.' That should be 'the judge ordered Li....' So it's a present with some conditions about future behavior connected to it, huh? They should sign an agreement before handing over the car. "I, Ms. Li, hereby trade my soul for a car." Don't blame the woman, the guy and his dad were fond of showing off their wealth and thought they could stake their claim on her as well. I don't understand that judge. He should have said, the car is hers since you've 'given' it to her yourself and you should think twice next time. But maybe 'gift' and 'investment' have the same meaning in languages of other countries.

No one looks good in this article. Qu sounds like a rich brat who liked to flash his parents' money, and inevitably met up with the kind of shameless gold digger type who likes to attach herself to boys who flash Daddy's credit cards. And the thing about the types of rich-brat foreigners (I've met my share...it's amazing how many 20 somethings are not embarrassed to talk about their privileged background like in genuinely makes them Special Snowflakes compared to the plebs) is that they are usually so far up their own asses, they don't see the gold digger coming. I mean, she point-blank demanded a 800KRMB car, and he actually got her one? As for Li--a human twist on a sea lamprey. The kind of girl who has no other skill in life but to attach herself to rich foreigners and suck their bank accounts until it's time to go after someone else.

Sucker. A fool and his money. RULE #1: NEVER BUY A CAR FOR A CHINESE GIRL!!! Rule #2: Never spend more than 10% of your monthly salary on her in any given month. Rule #3: If she demands more (or a car), kick her sa jiao, gold digging ass to the curb and find someone like my wife, who is happy to do anything, as long as we do it together.
