Oysters are Zhuhai’s staple product, and are well known in the city and surroundings for their impressive size and flavor. Not only are oysters eaten by the bucketload in Zhuhai, there is also a developed oyster processing industry, specializing in producing oyster sauces used in cooking all over Southeast Asia. In addition, the eels raised in the Zhuhai regions are popular and well known foods exported to Hong Kong, Macau and Japan. Other local specialties are the Nanping grass carp, Zhuhai crabs, prawns and lotus root.
